This farm was built by California-based OptiSolar. Located in Ontario Province, the 346-hectare farm is expected to begin contributing to the Ontario grid by 2010, supplying electricity to about 6,000 households.
Energy Minister Dwight Duncan said it would be one of the world's largest solar farms.
According to Canadian Press , OptiSolar will sell electricity to the Ontario government for 42 cents / kWh, compared to the price of 11 cents / kWh from wind power.
Sources say the solar farm is among the 14 energy projects of the Ontario provincial government. Accordingly, the provincial government will pay bonuses to companies that produce electricity from wind, solar and other renewable energy sources. These 14 projects will provide more than 107 megawatts of electricity to the Ontario grid.
