Yesterday (September 17), Hong Kong postponed cooling of ducks and geese from Guangdong after it was reported that the poultry may have been infected with the H5N1 virus. The most recently discovered bird flu drive in China is in May, in the central province of Hunan.

With the largest number of poultry in the world and millions of free poultry farms, China is now the center of the fight against bird flu.

Scientists are concerned that avian influenza viruses can mutate and easily spread between humans and create a global pandemic. Up to now, there have been 25 cases of people infected with H5N1, there are 16 deaths.
