Chinese scientists use telescopes in Antarctica to search for planets capable of nurturing life.

Chinese scientists built a telescope in the highest position in Antarctica in early 2012. This position is more than 4,000m above sea level. The main task of the glass is to find planets capable of nurturing life outside the solar system. They will continue to install two more telescopes in the near future, Science Daily reported.

Lifan Wang - an astronomer from Texas Agricultural and Mechanical University and also director of the Antarctic Astronomical Center in Nanjing, China - believes that efforts to find extraterrestrial life will paid off.

"It is possible that humans will find a planet-like planet in the next few years. Such a planet can exist in the Milky Way and a few thousand light years away from us , " he predicted.

Like many other scientists, Wang admits that humans know very little about life.

"Perhaps some life forms do not need the environment like the earth. Some life forms can exist in extremely harsh environments," he explained.

Antarctica is the continent that possesses the most ideal conditions for observing the universe. It has a very flat surface. The Antarctic atmosphere is unpolluted so it is clear and stable. Gas disturbances rarely occur here. The temperature in Antarctica can be as low as - 80 degrees Celsius, so the atmosphere there is very dry, so scientists do not encounter radiation from the ground when they receive infrared light.

In addition, the night can cover Antarctica for up to 4 months so scientists can follow the universe continuously for a long time.

China also plans to build an astronomical observatory in Antarctica to enhance space research. If the Chinese parliament approves the plan, their observatory will start operating from 2020.
