China promotes the development of biodiesel from rapeseed

In an effort to reduce dependence on oil while the demand for fuel is constantly increasing, while limiting pollution, Chinese scientists are focusing on studying many new technologies to lift High yield of biofuels in parallel with breeding high yielding rapeseed. Rapeseed is evaluated by experts as one of the best materials for biodiesel production.

China's Ministry of Agriculture said that the development of the global biodiesel industry is bringing more opportunities for China, which produces 30% of the world's rapeseed. The country currently grows 7 million hectares of rapeseed with an average yield of 13-14 million tons / year. However, due to obsolete technology, China's biodiesel production is only 100,000 tons / year.

Last year, the country successfully bred a rapeseed for seeds with a record high oil content of 54.72%. One of the largest biodiesel projects is being implemented in the Yunnan border province with 25,000 ha of jatropha curcas (belonging to the castor family, often called a picket pole and due to its high oil content up to 30%, Named 'diesel tree' ) was planted in 2006 to supply biodiesel to cars.

By 2020, China is estimated to produce 12 million tons of liquid biofuels such as ethanol and biodiesel, replacing about 10 million tons of commercial petroleum.
