China's domestic third-generation superconducting quantum computer named Origin Wukong began operating on January 6 at Origin Quantum Computer Technology Company in Hefei, Anhui province in eastern China, according to Global News . This is the result of China's research and development efforts in advanced technology.
Superconducting quantum computers are quantum computers based on superconducting circuit quantum chips. Around the world, both IBM and Google's quantum computers apply such technology roadmaps. China's new quantum computer is powered by Wukong, a domestic superconducting quantum chip.
Kong Weicheng, deputy director of the Anhui Quantum Computer Engineering Research Center, said the machine is integrated with a third-generation quantum computer control system, which can enhance the machine's performance. This calculation is many times greater. According to Jia Zhilong, Deputy Director of Anhui Provincial Key Quantum Computing Chip Laboratory, the Wukong chip includes a total of 198 qubits, including 72 active qubits and 126 paired qubits.
Wukong's name is inspired by Sun Wukong (famous character in Chinese literature with 72 transformations), symbolizing the power and flexibility of computers. "The quantum computer model shows that China has made progress in the field of strategic science and technology ," said Yuan Lanfeng, researcher at Hefei University of Science and Technology Microphysical Science Center. China, comments. According to Yuan, through specialized algorithms, quantum computers provide higher computing power than traditional computers, especially in cryptography, materials design and drug analysis. Realizing the value of quantum computing requires many long-term efforts.
Origin Quantum has supplied first and second generation superconducting quantum computers to the Chinese market. Calculated by the number of quantum computing patents, Origin Quantum ranks 1st in China and 6th in the world
