Close your eyes to remember better

To enhance memory, people just relax and close their eyes after receiving information.

Livescience said, Edinburgh University scientists in Scotland asked 33 people aged 61 to 87 to listen to two short stories and asked volunteers to remember as many details as possible. The experts then divided the volunteers into two groups and allowed them to rest for 10 minutes before telling the two stories. During the break, a group sat still and closed their eyes in a dark room, while the other group played a game on the computer.

Our information, temporary memories will become long-term memories.

These people were divided into two groups: while one group took a break, the other group played a game to find differences on the computer. Eventually they will have to tell the story they heard.

The results show that the rest group remembers more details than the gaming team.

A week later, the team again asked volunteers to tell two stories. The amount of detail that the resters remember is still larger than the others.

"Our research reinforces the hypothesis that the memorization process does not end as soon as the brain receives information. Human activities immediately after receiving information greatly affect the memory process and storage of the brain, " said Michaela Dewar, psychologist at Edinburgh University.

The team concludes that, in a 10-minute brain rest period, it will reinforce the latest memories to turn them into long-term memories. Without this consolidation process, people will easily forget temporary memories.
