Collect gold from garbage
A waste treatment center in central Japan separates quite a lot of gold from the ash of waste and mud under the sewer.
According to an official of Nagano Prefecture (located in northwest Tokyo), the Suwa garbage disposal center in the province exploited an average of 1,890 grams of gold from a ton of ash after burning the waste. Meanwhile, at the Hishikari mine, one of the largest gold mines in the world and in Japanese territory, only 20-40 grams of gold is obtained from a ton of ore.
Nagano officials said that after deducting all government expenses, they would receive 5 million yen (US $ 55,810) from the gold collected by Suwa in fiscal year 2008.
