Coming soon 'hybrid'

The South Korean newspaper reported that Samsung and Microsoft are preparing to launch 'hybrid' discs.

A hybrid drive is a combination of flash memory and standard hard drive technology. This type of drive, by design, is only compatible with Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system.

A Samsung spokesman confirmed it developed its own hybrid disc series exclusively for Microsoft's Windows Vista operating system.

Thanks to the integrated flash memory technology, the boot speed will be significantly improved. Not only that hybrid drive technology can also extend battery life - a feature especially important for notebooks.
