Cuba intends to build two stations to monitor the modern universe at the ground

Cuba's state news agency ACN announced on December 27 that Cuba and Russia will cooperate in installing, organizing and operating two space observation stations at the ground on the island nation of Caribbean Islands.

The two parties will install modern telescopes that are fully automated for geostationary observations.(Illustration).

The source said the actual project was launched in August last year in Moscow as part of the second session of the Science, Technology and Environment Cooperation Group under the Intergovernmental Committee between the two countries.

On December 19, experts from Cuba's Institute of Geophysics and Astronomy (IGA) and the Astronomical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences also conducted a seminar in La Habana.

IGA Director Martha Rodríguez Urapsuka said so far the two sides have conducted meteorological and geographic measurements to determine the ideal location to place these two space observation stations and scientific cooperation projects, if approved by the National Assembly. through the two countries, there will be a five-year term with the option to continue.

It is expected that the two parties will install modern telescopes that are fully automated for geostationary observations, measure with images and spectra of space objects that can be observed from Cuba, serving much purpose, including controlling meteorites or potentially harming the Earth.
