Decode the 'mystical' thing in the sky of Vietnam

In recent years, we have always seen some amazing natural phenomena appear in the sky of Vietnam. And there have been many associations around these images, which are spiritual aura on Buddha, 'dragon' and 'phoenix' in clouds, flying objects forming halo .

In the days of 15,18 / 9/2008 and on April 18, 2010, in Da Nang, there appeared a phenomenon of sun radiating a strange aura , forming a halo around.

Many photos of this phenomenon at the Buddha Quan The Am, Linh Ung Pagoda, Da Nang were published online. The phenomenon of 'aura' has caused public opinion to stir up and even create superstitious rumors.

The same phenomenon happened in Vung Tau on October 7, 2009, in the presence of thousands of people.

According to Le Huy Minh, deputy director of the Institute of Geophysics said, this is a very rare natural phenomenon in Vietnam and rarely observed. This phenomenon is often called 'halo' .

The halo phenomenon usually occurs during the day (sun halo) or night (halo halo) in the summer and fall every year. The nature of the sun's halo and moon halo are similar.

This phenomenon is created when the light of the sun or moon passes through ice crystals refracted or reflected to produce circles. Usually the sun halo has 7 brilliant colors due to the scattered light, and the moon halo is only white due to low light.

According to folk experience, halo appears to be a precursor to a period of prolonged rain that will occur, possibly causing water shortage, local drought.

Cloud scales dragon

After a rain in the afternoon of August 20, 2009, in the sky, Hanoi appeared an interesting phenomenon: the layer of cloud layer of dragon scales. This phenomenon takes place around 18h, lasts for 40 minutes after the rain.

Before the spectacle of excitement , many people think of the event of leaving the capital of King Ly Thai To in 1010. According to the story, the king saw the dragon flying on Dai La citadel and changed its name to Thang Long, Kinh New capital of Dai Viet.

Mr. Tran Van Sap, deputy director of the National Center for Meteorological Forecasting, said: " The phenomenon is nothing special and is not related to major meteorological developments. clouds are very low, so the phenomenon is considered rare ".

Mr. Sap asserts that these clouds are mammatus clouds , or " mammoth clouds" , also called "mammoth clouds" . In Vietnam, folk are called "dragon scales".

Mammatus is a meteorological term for the phenomenon of cloud chambers that hang into thick layers beneath another cloud. This is a normal meteorological phenomenon . In the international cloud catalog, there is a description of mammatus type. At the same time, in Vietnam, there have been many times recognizing the appearance of these clouds.

According to Peter Gibbs, BBC meteorologist, the first condition to form mammatus clouds is a thunderstorm accompanied by heavy rain and lightning. However, these mammatus clouds are harmless by its occurrence often when the worst phase of storms passes.

Phoenix cloud

In the afternoon of September 7, 2010, a strange cloud appeared in the sweltering heat of Hanoi skyline. The shape of the cloud is not unusual, but above the cloud there are streaks of oil spills with seven brilliant rainbow colors.

Strange clouds have surprised many people in Hanoi and chattered. Some people think that clouds are like a baby, and they say that clouds are like phoenix wings. Some even argue that this is a good omen for the 1,000-year celebration of Thang Long.

According to Mr. Le Ngoc Linh, an amateur astronomer in Hanoi, this 'strange cloud' phenomenon is five-colored clouds. This is a normal optical phenomenon although quite rare in nature. In ancient times, according to the folklore concept, the five-color cloud phenomenon appeared to be an omen of Thai Thai An. Those who see the five-colored clouds will be lucky.

Today, the science of cloudy colors is created by diffraction. When illuminated by the sun, small droplets or small ice crystals in the clouds scatter white light, while large ice crystals create an optical halo with colors like a rainbow.

The phenomenon of five-color clouds is similar to the rainbow phenomenon. However, rainbows and sunlight are needed for rainbows, and iridescent clouds need only the right angles between clouds and the sun to be seen.

UFO glowing in the sky in Hanoi

At 5:00 - 5:30 pm on October 28, 2010, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Vu (Hanoi) filmed an image of a flying object forming a light trail in the sky like an object being burned out of space. Earth's atmosphere.

However, in response to the press, Mr. Nguyen Duc Phuong, Vietnam Astronomical Society affirmed, the "strange object" mentioned above is a civil aircraft .

According to Mr. Phuong's explanation, because the time occurred around 5 pm, early winter (the sky was dark), only the high positions continued to receive sunlight, while the low places were like that. The ground is almost no sunshine. Passenger aircraft often fly at an altitude of about 10 km, the airflow generated by the aircraft continues to receive sunlight, scattering and reflections, so we see very clearly, especially at sunset.

According to Mr. Phuong, if the plane flies at noon, it will leave a white streak. At the time of sunset or dawn the eye will often see yellow, or orange.

Air vapor streaks are released from the engine part (not smoke). This stream has a higher temperature than the surrounding environment because the plane usually flies at an altitude of about 8-13km, where the temperature may drop to minus 55 degrees C. "The warmer stream will crystallize, freeze and According to inertial inertia, the movement will form the streak, " Ward said.

The day turned into night

At 9:00 am, April 4, 2014, people in Hon Gai area, Ha Long City (Quang Ninh) had to turn on their lights for living and business because the sky was dark. This phenomenon is also recorded in many other northern provinces. The cause was determined by the great thunderstorm, the thick black cloud covering the sun .

"Twin" rainbow

Rainbow is a dispersal phenomenon of sunlight when interacting with water particles in the air. When the light is reflected and refracted through the water particle, it will split into colors in the order of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, purple. Most often seen as a single rainbow, while the "twin " rainbow is very rare.

According to international scientists, the mystery of this type of rainbow lies in the combination of water droplets of different sizes. Sometimes, two showers occur at the same time , raindrops will have different sizes and create a slightly deformed rainbow. These rainbows combine to make a twin rainbow.
