Dell launched the Intel Xeon application workstation series
Yesterday (May 31), Dell launched a new generation of workstations capable of handling the heaviest applications at 155% faster speeds than previous models.
The Dell Precision 690 and 490 workstations are equipped with Intel's advanced dual-core Xeon processing technology - a new memory architecture with faster speeds and higher scalability, and a state-of-the-art dual graphics system improve processing capacity up to 45% when executing single-threaded applications and up to 155% when running multithreaded applications compared to previous workstations.
The new memory architecture is designed to make it easier for customers to work with large amounts of data to handle and manage application and image loading levels. The new systems double the number of memory channels to 4 FB-DIMM modules (Fully Buffered Dual In-line Memory Module - Buffer Dual Inline Memory Module) and equipped with advanced memory architecture, Unique and scalable to 16 DIMM modules via memory expansion card option helps build the maximum memory configuration.
The graphics processing capabilities of the Dell Precision 690 and 490 workstations are also enhanced to meet the harshest environments. Dell Precision 690-1KW has an optional dual graphics bridge circuit for combining two nVIDIA SLI (Scalable Link Interface) graphics cards for higher quality display and performance.
Dell also designed new 690 and 490 cases based on customer feedback. The 490 chassis can be swapped into two types of verticals (towers) and located (desktops) depending on customer requirements. The new chassis also makes it easier for users to manage internal components via the smart access panel on the front.
