Revealing the ancient architecture of the Ly - Tran Dynasty
Experts have discovered the ground of an architectural court dating back to the Tran dynasty with many historical relics in Đầm mountain, Vân Diên commune, Nam Đàn district, Nghệ An.
Previously, in 2014, during the field survey at Van An Citadel, archaeological experts of Kinh Thanh Research Center (Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) found ground. an architectural building on the Hole Sit cave.
The Lu Sit cave site is located in the southern ridge of Hung Son mountain range (Dune), behind the tomb of King Mai Hac De and has a relatively flat ground, 50m higher than the tomb of King Mai Hac De. .
Conducting excavation of this relic has revealed many vestiges and artifacts identified by experts as having close relationship with King Mai Hac De tomb relics.
The first excavation site has a rectangular surface of 241.2m2. The remaining footprint consists of a bundle of foundation, stone pillars that are fortified, in the middle of the foundation, there is a platform leading down to the yard, the simple, 30cm x 30cm stone-made footstones are placed on the foundation pillars, foundation are solidly treated and compacted with material.
In the architectural heart, there are many relics such as leaf-nose tile, faience and porcelain characteristics of Tran culture. In front of the monument is a yard with an area of 14.5m, 8.1m wide, connecting with the first point monument architecture with a hierarchy of steps.
Based on the architecture of the remaining foundation and the relics, the experts have initially identified this relic as an architectural plan of rectangular shape, wooden frame, roof of tiled roof, distance of columns in the space of 3 , 3m, monuments with a width of 6m.
The special thing is that this monument has quite different architecture with even number of space numbers (6 spaces) different from the number of odd spaces commonly found in popular architectures during the same period.
The second point, at the western position of the first plot, a square architectural site, covering an area of 129.6m2, and the original foundation and reinforcement of the foundation pillar, was built quite solidly with the structure including 2 parts, the base is 60cm to 80cm wide, arranged in stone; body parts lined with bricks, rectangular, gray and red.
A special feature of this point is that the bricks are in rectangular shape and the zone is covered with Suoi - Duong time. In addition, there are many relics to be used in architectural decoration such as the bird statue, the head of the dragon, the hand of the dragon, the leaf, the head of the blade made from earthenware. Especially, small terracotta towers of 5 stories, average height 30cm - 40cm.
The discovery of the ruins of Lo Sit cave and related artifacts in the area of King Mai Temple, combined with the terrain elements of this area showed a close relationship with each other. The ruins of Lo Sit cave were also evaluated as the first architectural complex of the Tran dynasty discovered in Nghe An area and the earliest architecture built by the Vietnamese feudal dynasty to honor and recognize the merit. of King Mai Hac De.
