The invention of scientists at Carnegie Mellon University (USA) is called GigaPan, assisting the camera to capture a single panoramic picture, then taking 36 images horizontally and 10 vertically images of that scene. The software will unify them to produce results with incredible detail, like the London photo this night.

"In the future, we hope anyone can take pictures like that to share with everyone," said Randy Sargent, Head of Project Gigapan.

The time when products appear on the market has not been announced and is expected to cost about a hundred dollars (ultra high resolution camera is now sold for several tens of thousands of dollars).
