Discover new species in Sapa

A Vietnamese scientist and two Chinese colleagues have just discovered a thick hairy tree, a species of plant that scientists have never known, in Sapa district, Lao Cai province.

Thick fur is a tree with a height of 8 to 15 m, trunk diameter of about 20 cm. Their flowers are large in size, white in color and emit a charming fragrance so they have potential in the urban forestry industry. The findings of the three experts were published on BioOne, a rather famous scientific journal in the United States.

Earlier last year, botanist Vu Quang Nam and a Chinese colleague also discovered a new plant called Mang Sapa ( Manglietia sapaensis ) in Hoang Lien National Park. The discovery was published in Swedish bio-magazine in Sweden.

Founded in 2002, Hoang Lien National Park is located at an altitude of 1,000 to 3,000 m above the Hoang Lien Son mountain range, located in Than Uyen and Phong Tho districts of Lai Chau province and Sapa district. of Lao Cai province. The World Nature Protection Association voted it one of the "diverse centers of plant species". It is also rated A by the Global Environment Fund, the highest level of biological value in Vietnam.
