Flags of countries around the world.

According to After Skool, not using the color purple on the national flag has never been regulated. The reason why many flags are not purple is that its production used to be very expensive.

In ancient times, paint was made from natural dyes, for example red from berries. Blue color from glass shards. Yellow comes from flowers and black from coal, but to obtain purple dye, special plants or animals are needed to extract the color.

Initially, purple was created from sea snails in a small region of the Mediterranean. It takes up to 10,000 of these snails to create 1g of purple dye. The cost to create this color was not cheap before the 19th century. Compared to gold, its value could be even higher.

Purple clothes still exist but they are usually only worn by the very rich and mainly members of the royal family. Previously, there was a term called "royal purple".

It was not until 1856 that William Henry Perkin, an English student, found a way to create purple dye cheaply. From here, purple became more popular. That's also why some flags designed after 1900 may have some purple streaks.

Nicaragua - We can see just a hint of purple in the rainbow of the Nicaraguan flag, designed in 1907.

Dominica - This flag was adopted in 1978. You can find the purple color in the drawing of the sisserou parrot, Dominica's national bird, in the center.
