According to the BBC, Murray Orr collects a 30 cm long fossil tooth at Beaumaris Bay near Melbourne, Australia, in February. Orr donated fossil specimens to the Victoria Museum and the official tooth was announced on 21 / 4.
Victoria Museum representative said the 5-million-year-old fossil specimen belongs to an extinct killer killer whale . " Before the discovery in Beaumaris, all fossils of killer sperm whales were only found on the west coast of North America and South America, " said paleontologist Erich Fitzgerald.
According to the museum, the whale is the ancestor of today's sperm whale, which can be 18 meters long and weighs 40 tons.
