Discovered genes that cause dementia in humans
According to the Korean Ministry of Science and Technology, Professor Xu Weixian and colleagues at the University of Seoul Medical Institute have announced the first discovery of a gene that causes dementia in humans. This finding helps create a new way of treating dementia.
Research by scientists has shown that in people with dementia, the rate of S100a9 protein in brain organization is higher than average.
If SiRNA is used to inhibit S100a9 protein, it may help reduce the likelihood of developing dementia. Inhibition of S100a9 protein is beneficial for preventing the occurrence of dementia or slowing the disease.
