Discovering rare and precious species in Thanh Hoa

The rare and precious species has suddenly appeared at Pu Hu Nature Reserve (highland district of Quan Hoa, Thanh Hoa).

On the evening of January 6, Mr. Nguyen Phuong Dong, Director of Pu Hu Nature Reserve Management Board, said that the unit has discovered large species by camera trapping (automatic photography).

According to Mr. Dong, while operating in the field, experts use animal monitoring using automatic camera trapping methods at 98 sub-areas in Hien Chung commune; subdivision 56, subdivision 72, 73 Trung Thanh commune (Quan Hoa), with the number of camera traps placed in the sub-zones of 11 units.

From camera traps located at coordinates at an altitude of 758m above the sea level in Sub-region 56 (Trung Thanh commune), experts obtained a picture of a female carrying a female, a male carrying a male (taken by the camera apart 10 minutes).

The results show that this is a large gill species (scientific name Muntiacus vuquangensis) published by scientists in 1994 in Vu Quang district (Ha Tinh).

This species is included in the Vietnam Red Book, endangered classification and in the list of "Endangered, precious and rare forest flora and fauna" of group 1b, according to the Decree No. 32/2006 / ND-CP of the Government. .

"The discovery of two large individuals at the same site proves the development of the species. At the same time, it confirms the existence of large populations in Pu Hu Nature Reserve. Currently important in nature conservation, biodiversity values ​​in the reserve, " Dong said.

According to the director of the reserve, in December 2015, camera traps also captured many other rare and precious animal species that exist in this nature reserve such as golden cash chicken, wild cat, flying squirrel. .
