According to the article published in Biology Letters, researcher Amanda Franklin and colleagues at the University of Melbourne (Australia) discovered this when observing the southern dwarf squid.

For some animals, mating requires the ultimate sacrifice. The spherical spherical mesh is an example. This spiders voluntarily become food for their children during mating, extending the 'sex' and aiming to pass on genes to their children. This is only a rare case, but in general mating requires a lot of energy and energy.

This is especially true for southern dwarf squid (Euprymna tasmanica) , a 7cm-long round and mollusk. Dwarf squid often die prematurely, mate with many partners during a short life lasting 1 year. Each of their mating can last up to 3 hours, causing them to be so exhausted that they can do nothing afterwards.

During mating, the male clings and embraces the female. After the 'rain cloud' , both male and female squid swim very leisurely. They can only swim halfway from normal. This means they have very little energy to be able to find food, avoid enemies, develop or find new partners. Continuing the experiment, the researchers found that high and long-lasting mating was one of the reasons dwarf squid could not live long.
