Dreaming during the day helps people increase their concentration
New research has shown, daydreaming for the mind to roam really helps us focus on solving the problem that followed.
Many of us think that daydreaming is a sign of laziness or the expression of procrastination. However, a recent study by scientists at the University of Southern California has shown that allowing the mind to roam can really solve the problem that is being encountered.
To prove the research, Professor Mary Helen Immordino-Yang and colleagues at the University of Southern California conducted brain scans on subjects who are relaxing and resting. Experts found that, when thoughts wandered, the brain jumped from one thought to another, reproducing images, sounds, thoughts and emotions.
Dreamy thoughts in a brain area are always active when we rest or not participate in certain important tasks. However, this brain region will "turn off" when we need to focus.
When mind wandering, parts of the brain involved in solving problems will work more actively when focusing on tasks. Therefore, while daydreaming can slow down the time to complete the task, it accidentally helps you solve other important issues in life more decisively.
In another study, scientists have asked volunteers to alternate mental rest time and focus on looking at images or listening to sounds. Thereby, they found that, after having a mental rest, dreaming, their brains will have stronger stimulation in sight and hearing more to meet the requirements of hearing and observation. .
Mary Helen Immordino-Yang said: "Concentration is necessary, but sometimes it is necessary to let the brain relax and dream because it is a way to help us focus more on the required work later."
