Researchers in the US have announced a device like a hair dryer called Lousebuster that can kill lice in less than 30 minutes.
This device kills lice and eggs by drying them so they can't reproduce. It is believed that the device could one day replace the commonly used lice deodorant shampoo.
A trial was conducted with 169 children in Salt Lake, USA. The results showed that Lousebuster killed 80% of newly hatched lice and 98% of nits in the heads of children.
Dale Clayton, co-inventor, said: " The Lousebuster device blows twice as much air flow than conventional dryers into lice hair, drying their lice and eggs very quickly ."
Researchers said the device could be launched in the next two years.
