Earthquake 6.5 Richter in Indonesia, affecting Singapore

A strong magnitude 6.5 earthquake occurred in Indonesia on June 2, tremors spread to Singapore.

According to the US Geological Survey (USGS), the magnitude 6.5 earthquake has a epicenter at a depth of 50km, only 91km away from Sungai Penuh city on Sumatra island and about from Padang, the capital of Sumatra island 155km, Reuters on 2/6 reported.

Indonesia's Geological, Meteorological and Hydrological Agency (BMKG) said the earthquake occurred around 5:56 am on June 2 and there was no tsunami warning.

There have been no official reports of damage after the earthquake. However, according to The Straits Times, local officials noted that two people were injured and nine buildings in West Sumatra were damaged, the electricity system and communication did not affect.

According to The Straits Times, despite being more than 500km from the epicenter, Singapore also felt the quake of this earthquake. However, a spokesman for the Singapore Domestic Defense Force said the agency did not receive any requests for assistance regarding the earthquake.

Indonesia is located in the Pacific fire belt, so frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur.
