The earthquake shook Indonesia again
A 6.1-magnitude quake struck this morning, causing Indonesia's Sulawesi island to shake - the US Geological Survey said.
Earthquakes occurred around 2:30 am - local time (1:30 am Vietnamese time) at a depth of 10 km. The epicenter is located about 215km north-northeast of the Baubau area of Sulawesi and 1,845km east of Jakarta.
There are no tsunami warnings issued by the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, and there are no statistics on damage in Sulawesi after the earthquake.
Indonesia is located on the Pacific " ring of fire "
Indonesia is located between the 'Pacific Ring of Fire ' (running along the northeast islands, close to and including New Guinea) and the Alp belt (running along the south and west from Sumatra, Java, Bali, Flores and Timor). The earthquake in December 2004 near the Sumatra coast is actually part of the Alp belt.
The Pacific ' Ring of Fire ' is an area of frequent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions that surround the Pacific basin. It is shaped like a horseshoe ring and is about 40,000 km long.
