East Asia accounts for a quarter of scientific inventions

Japan, South Korea and China accounted for a quarter of the number of scientific inventions registered in 2007, announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on February 21.

Japan, South Korea and China accounted for a quarter of the number of scientific inventions registered in 2007, announced by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) on February 21.

According to the statistics of WIPO, Japan (2nd), South Korea (4th) and China (7th) accounted for 25.8% deposited with scientific inventions. Among them, China registered a 38.1% increase and South Korea surpassed France despite a 2.1% increase in the number of registrations (ranked 5th).

The East Asia region also noted a point in this field when for the first time, a Japanese company took the top spot in the world patent rankings in 2007. Accordingly, Matsushita company pushed the company Philips of the Netherlands went down the second row when there were 2,100 patents. The Dutch company has 2,041 licenses registered.

China has also deepened its gap with other developing countries when there were 5,456 applications for patents compared to India with only 686, South Africa 390, Brazil 384 and 173 degrees for Mexico. The total number of applications granted by WIPO in the past year has reached a new record with 156,100 patents, an increase of 4.7% compared to 2006.

The number of patents in 2007 focused on the fields of telecommunications, informatics, pharmaceuticals .
