New research from Heriot Watt University in Edinburgh (UK) shows that watching many romantic love movies will negatively affect love.
Heriot Watt University psychological research specialists say that it is the romance stories from cinematographic works that make viewers create their own unrealistic wishes in love.
They found that fans of romantic movies like Runaway Bride or Notting Hill often have difficulty sharing with their lovers, or tend to believe that the audience will understand these things. What they need even if they don't say it.
Psychologists also conducted a study with 200 volunteer students. Half of them were asked to watch the film while the rest watched a realistic movie.
The results showed that students who considered romantic sentiment tended to believe in fate and fate more than the other group. When conducting further research, they concluded that fans of emotional films often believe in predestined relationships more than others.
"While a lot of people are aware that the concept of perfect relationships is unimaginable, some are still very much influenced by the stories that embroidered films", Dr. Bjarne Holmes of Heriot Watt University identify.
Another expert who participated in the study, Kimberly Johnson, said filmmakers have mistakenly portrayed qualities such as trust and commitment in love as soon as characters meet. In fact, these often take years to achieve.
