Europe: Sony reduced the features of the PS3
The upcoming PlayStation 3 (PS3) version of Sony will have lower production costs than previous products to boost the profit of this console game.
The PS3 version of the European market - due out on March 23, will not have a microprocessor chip that provides graphics capabilities and data processing capabilities for PS2 games, instead it will be integrating another chip, cheaper but still capable of backward compatibility with PS2 games, of course with lower quality.
Sony's solution is to reduce the cost of PS3 production, but until now, it still incurs losses for every PS3 sold. It is because of the high cost of PS3 that revenue from this department has been quite gloomy in recent years. By the end of March, Sony had lost for the PS3 about $ 1.71 billion.
Also in a move to cut production costs, Sony is expected to announce a new chip called "Cell", manufactured on the 65 technology line to replace current 90nm chip products. . Cells have smaller circuits, and therefore lower production costs, but still ensure superior power compared to current chip versions.
Sony is currently competing with rival Microsoft and Nintendo in the global $ 30 billion video game market. Reportedly, the company has released the PS3 game consoles from the end of last year for the US and Japan markets.
