Dinosaur fossils found in Portugal date back to 150 million years and are identified as the largest carnivorous dinosaur in Europe.

According to experts from the University of Lisbon, Portugal, this dinosaur is named Torvosaurus gurneyi . Dinosaur fossils were found in the northern area of today's Lisbon capital in 2003.

Like the Tyrannosaurus Rex, this is a two-legged carnivorous dinosaur, a long muzzle, a large blade-shaped tooth, about 10cm long.

New studies identify the largest terrestrial carnivorous dinosaur ever found in Europe, and one of the largest in the Jurassic world.

As an adult, Torvosaurus gurneyi dinosaurs can grow to about 10m long and weigh 4-5 tons. The dinosaur skeleton is estimated to be nearly 120cm long.

"Wherever dinosaurs appear, it will become hegemony. No animal can compete with the Torvosaurus dinosaurs during the Jurassic period. T. rex dinosaurs also held this position 80 million years ago. " , AFP quoted Mateus, a member of the research team.

Identifying new dinosaurs will provide important information about the development of carnivorous dinosaurs millions of years ago. The discovery also shows the correlation between dinosaurs in North America and Europe living during the Jurassic period. This helps paleontologists to study the interaction as well as the relationship between the two regions at the time.
