Expert helpless, unknown reason 50,000 years old lake turned pink
Lonar lake water in India has changed to pink, scientists and authorities do not know the reason.
Indians in recent days are wondering for some reason that the Lonar Lake in the nature reserve in Maharashtra suddenly turned pink full of mystery.
The scientists speculate that this change is due to saline water in the lake, or the proliferation of an algae, or both. Great Salt Lake in the USA and Hillier Lake in Australia used to be in a similar situation.
Lonar Lake in India turns pink.
Gajanan Kharat, an Indian geologist, said the change in the color of Lonar Lake had happened before but was not as obvious as this time.
"This year the lake water turns red because the salinity increases. The amount of water in the lake decreases and the water level becomes shallower. Therefore, the salinity of the lake water increases leading to changes," Kharat hypothesized. .
The expert also said that the research team is investigating whether any red algae are the cause of this discoloration. Water samples have been sent to the lab and the analysis will explain why Lonar Lake turns pink.
Lonar Lake formed 50 thousand years ago, when an asteroid collided with Earth.
