Alice Robert, an ophthalmologist at Cardiff University, one of the judges of this year's competition, praised the magic of this award-winning photo. The bright red arteries filled with blood have been oxidized, the purple veins along with the pink of the gray matter in the cortex have created a very realistic anatomical image.
The Wellcome Trust Award is an annual photography competition sponsored by the Wellcome Trust Research Assistance Fund. Excellent works will be on display at the Wellcome Collection, London from now until December.
