FAO calls for emergency bird flu aid

On February 7, the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) warned that the lack of capital and political will in some countries is making it difficult to fight bird flu globally.

FAO urges the international community to provide emergency assistance to countries suffering from bird flu, especially Indonesia, Egypt and Nigeria.

According to statistics, since 2003 worldwide, 166 people have died from bird flu out of 272 cases.

* The US embassy in Indonesia on 7 February warned US citizens to stay away from cats after reports that the animal may carry the H5N1 virus. An Indonesian scientist has found that about 20% of cats in areas with bird flu are also infected with the virus.

The US embassy said that while there has been no record of H5N1 infection from cats through humans, people need to avoid contact with wild cats and pay attention not to feed cats in the home or eat. contact with infected poultry.

Cornell University School of Veterinary Medicine (USA) said cats can be infected with H5N1 if they eat cooked poultry meat that is not cooked and can be spread directly to other cats. Scientists are concerned that the risk of avian influenza virus changes into a form that can be transmitted directly between people.
