Find out how to cure HIV

French scientists have just announced the discovery of a gene mechanism that helps some people with immunity to the effects of HIV, opening a new direction in finding medicines.

According to AFP, the study was done by the French Institute of Health and Medical Research and published in the Journal of Microbiology and Infection on November 4.

The object of the study is two men, one of whom has been infected with HIV 30 years ago, but never showed symptoms of AIDS.

The team said the virus remained in their immune cells but was inactive because its genetic code was altered. This phenomenon may occur due to the increased activity of a common enzyme named APOBEC .

According to French scientists, this 'natural healing' mechanism opens a promising path for anti-HIV pharmaceutical makers.

'The work opens a way to treat HIV by using or stimulating this enzyme, and there is a method to detect individuals infected with the virus that can carry the mechanism of self-disable.'

France's discovery may be a new approach to HIV treatment. The previous method is often studied to eliminate all traces of HIV in the human body.

"We think that the ability of HIV to stay is not a barrier but this could be a clue in finding a cure, how to protect it from this virus," the team said.

HIV replicates itself by attacking human CD4 immune cells, which programmatically turn this cell into a mass virus factory.

A small group of people infected with the virus (less than 1%) have a natural affirmation that suppresses the reproduction of HIV and tests will not detect antibodies in their blood. They are called 'high-level control subjects' , but before that it was unclear what mechanism did this.
