Floating house with unique pyramid shape
Floating building designs like in these fictional films can be a solution to help cities cope with extreme weather, especially sea level rise.
The whole house, named New Orleans Arcology Habitat (NOAH), is pyramid-shaped with a height of 365m, 9 million square meters and can accommodate 40,000 people - equivalent to the capacity of a stadium stadium. . This building includes service areas from hotels to shops, casinos and schools.
Pyramid-shaped design helps the NOAH building minimize the impact of strong tropical storms. In addition, NOAH is also designed to float on water. This allows the building to be adjusted up and down when flooding or sea level rise occurs.
Architect Kevin Schopfer, head of the design team, explains: 'Our design consists of three main points, including: being able to combat extreme weather events, environmentally friendly and possible built on soft soil and water surfaces'.
