Flooding caused serious damage in many Asian countries

There have been at least 25 people killed in the heavy rain that lasted many days in the state of Madhya Pradesh, North India.

According to the National Disaster Risk Control and Mitigation Council (NDRRMC), deaths due to heavy rains are all located in Luzon Island, northern Philippines. Heavy rain also left 4 people missing and 30 injured. There are about 2.5 million people (equivalent to 542,000 households) affected by extreme weather patterns, of which more than 206,000 people are currently staying in evacuation centers.

Heavy rains this week caused widespread flooding in the northern Philippines including Manila, and caused an estimated $ 14.33 million in damage to the agriculture and infrastructure sectors.

In Gansu province, northwestern China, heavy rain lasting for 6 hours on August 24 also killed 5 people and injured 2 people.

The local government report stated that the measured rainfall at some points in Dinh Tay city reached 195mm. Heavy rain affected nearly 1,000 houses in 7 cities and residential areas, destroying many houses and 100km of roads. The government is currently promoting relief efforts.

Meanwhile, heavy rain for nearly a week in Myanmar also caused significant losses in many states and regions.

The states of Kayin, Mon and Rakhine and Ayeyawady, Yangon and Bago areas are all suffering great floods. The most severe effect was Kayin state, where flash floods destroyed many houses, forcing the government to set up camps for affected victims. The National Meteorological and Hydrology Department warned that the water level on some rivers is still above the alarming level, so the possibility of flooding continues to spread. Local governments are trying to promote disaster relief.
