This is the first time that heart surgery for children is done by robots in Belgium. Previously, robots were also used in adult double-sided cardiac surgery at Saint-Luc Hospital for the past 3 years.

According to the announcement of the Saint-Luc Hospital announced on June 15, surgery risks will be reduced when using robots, less blood flow and lower likelihood of postoperative infections, rehabilitation better and limit putting strange devices into the body.
The surgeon controls the robot from a keyboard through very accurate 3D images from the surgical position. Surgical procedures are performed by four robotic arms.
