The ring dates from the 16th or 18th century and is believed to belong to the Skynner family , one of the families that had a great influence in Bampton since the 13th century.

Paul Wood said: "I started to detect metals since the 1970s and this is a discovery for me. The life of the ring can be up to 500 years. I have found many pieces of broken rings. before, but I have never seen anything intact like this.

Mark Becher, head of the Aylesbury metal detector team, said the special ring showed a very skillful ring work with fine details.

The ring has a delicate engraving and is decorated with some small dots between the heads of three birds. Above the shield is the head of a bird protruding, opening its mouth and neck, decorated with many contours as if depicting feathers. Similar decorations can be found at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.

Paul Wood also found many samples of Skynner medals and belongings of people who migrated to England in the 11th century.

The £ 10,000 valuation ring will be auctioned by Hansons Auctioneers next month.
