French experts and Vietnamese conclusions: Water turbid due to Manganese

The cause of turbidity in Ho Chi Minh City by two French experts is almost similar to the research results of scientists in Ho Chi Minh City.

"Our research team and the team of two French experts who just surveyed in Vietnam agreed on the basic cause of the turbidity in tap water in Ho Chi Minh City ."

Prof. Chu Pham Ngoc Son said that on October 22. He also added that although the two groups have argued with each other some technical issues, both sides have the same opinion about the cause of TP's turbidity.

Two French experts, Mr. Nicolas Legolf and Christan Lim from Veolia Water Force Company (France) were sent to Ho Chi Minh City to help find out the cause of turbidity and dirty water in the long term. in the city.

This visit follows the invitation of the HCM City People's Committee to AIMF (International Association of Mayors of French-speaking cities). Two experts said that there are four main causes of turbid and dirty water:

  1. The first is due to the long-term deposits in the plumbing being peeled because Tan Hiep water plant increased its operating capacity.
  2. The second is manganese (Mn) content in high raw water.
  3. Third, caused by bacteria of iron (Fe) and Mn.
  4. The last reason is quite new due to the intrusion of Saigon river water.

In addition, the two experts will also bring collected water samples to the laboratory in France.

Over 10 days in Ho Chi Minh City, two French experts collected 4 samples of water at Phu Hoa Tan water supply; Tan Hoa branch, Tan Hiep water plant and Hoc Mon underground water plant.

Up to now, at least three research groups of scientists at home and abroad have identified Mn as a factor causing turbid water in HCMC.

It is a group of scientists led by Prof. Chu Pham Ngoc Son, a group of engineers Nguyen Huu Quang, an application center for industrial nuclear technology of the Institute of Nuclear Research in Dalat and a group of two French experts. above.

However, according to some scientists, the conclusions of the Center for applying nuclear technology in industry are only true for samples taken from cast iron pipes.

Meanwhile, the city's water supply network includes many types and is made of many materials, not just cast iron pipes.

According to Prof. Chu Pham Ngoc Son, studies show that the cause of water turbidity in Ho Chi Minh City so far seems to be clear. In the long term, if the phenomenon of turbid water still occurs, it can only revolve around the problem of Mn content and bacteria. The problem now is that the authorities in Ho Chi Minh City must quickly embark on solving!
