From 1-6, broadband will be faster, cheaper!
The broadband Internet market (ADSL) in Vietnam is still being evaluated with a lot of potential. As predicted by telecommunications experts, ADSL subscribers increase each year by about 170%.
Although there are many service providers (ISPs), it is still the top 3 faces of VDC, FPT and Viettel. Two of these 3 service providers have launched new "moves" to attract customers from the next June 1.
Download speed faster!
From June 1, FPT Telecom Company officially provided Internet access service via fiber optic cable (Fiber To The Home-FTTH). This service has been tested by FPT Telecom since December 2005. While ADSL uses copper cable, FTTH uses fiber optic cables connecting from suppliers to customers' houses, with static IP addresses.
Broadband Internet will facilitate the development of increased services on the network - Photo: TL Optical cable has the advantage of no interference due to length, electromagnetic, unaffected by weather. Moreover, FTTH bandwidth can be up to Gigabit / second (compared to copper cable is only MegaBit / sec) so the quality will be better. Another advantage of FTTH technology is that the download and upload speeds are the same (the highest FTTH package that FPT Telecom currently offers has a minimum download and upload speed of 20Mbps).
' FTTH is the latest technology in the world today, only Japan and South Korea are the two leading countries in the field of broadband. With FTTH technology, service providers can provide speeds of up to 10 Gigabit per second, while ADSL 2+ can only meet 20 Megabits per second download (200 times faster) ', Mr. Dang Hong Minh - Head of Broadband Internet Department FPT Telecom Company - said.
Also according to Mr. Dang Hong Minh, this upload speed is very suitable for companies wishing to transfer data or services to provide online games. According to Mr. Dang Hong Minh, FTTH is expected to gradually replace ADSL in the near future once ADSL bandwidth is not enough to provide online services at the same time.
However, to use FTTH, consumers will have to spend a considerable amount of money. Charges (excluding VAT) for this service are provided by FPT Telecom, including: VND 8 million for initializing services (including customer terminals - Optical CPE), monthly subscription fees from VND 3 million to 15 million VND (depending on the service package with Internet access speed from low to high). Therefore, the assumption that FTTH will gradually replace ADSL provider must be a story of the distant future.
ADSL fee dropped sharply
From 1-6, ADSL service fee (MegaVNN package) of VDC will be reduced from 1% to 12.5%. Subscription fee is calculated depending on the package customers use, the lowest is 28,000 VND / month, the highest is 500,000 VND / month. Service access fee is calculated according to 2 ways, according to the traffic used, sent and received or the package fee, paid once a month to use the service without restriction, regardless of the traffic.
In addition, VDC also launched a new package with static IP address to meet the business name named Mega VNN Pro with monthly subscription fee of VND 500,000 / month. In addition, VDC also adjusted the maximum speed of the old packages to a minimum of 512Kbps / 256Kbps. With this new price, VDC expects in 2006, the number of regular customers using MegaVNN services will increase sharply, possibly reaching 250,000 subscribers by the end of this year (double the current figure).
VDC's freight reduction does not worry other suppliers. FPT Telecom or Viettel, SaigonPostel (SPT) all have ADSL service packages with lower rates. Specifically, if only calculating monthly subscription fee, SPT has package of VND 17,000; FPT has a package of 20,000 dong, Viettel has a package of 18,000 dong .
So these suppliers all said that they could not lower the price anymore because this price had 'hit the floor'. However, for many customers, the most important thing is not depending on the price but the quality and after-sales service of the suppliers.
