According to the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), roasted garlic is a multi-year-old grass root up to 80cm tall, without branching. Their flower vases are small bell-shaped, white or white cream exterior with purple spots on the first half of the vase. The pistil set has an inverted cone, 6-7mm in diameter, and three lobes hugging tightly.
The new species grows into populations under the canopy of broad-leaved forest on Ca Dam mountain, in the two districts of Tay Tra and Tra Bong (Quang Ngai), at an altitude of 800 m to over 1,000 m. This species is endemic to the flora of Vietnam.
The research results are a collaboration of the Institute of Tropical Biology (Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology), Ludwig-Maximilians General University (Germany).
