Germany: Detects an 35,000-year-old ivory mammoth
German archaeologists for the first time discovered an intact mammoth statue in southern Germany.
The ivory statue, 4cm long and 7.5g in weight, is dated to the Ice Age (35,000 years ago). The statue simulating mammoth figures with a pointed tail, stubby legs and a strong trunk. In addition to this artifact, archaeologists have also discovered many lion and other simulated specimens. All are said to be " works of art " of the Ice Age.
Also here, in 1931, German archaeologists discovered 11 small specimens made of ivory, many of them with wild horses and mammoths. Then, in 2005, German archaeologists decided to conduct excavations on a large scale in this area. The work is expected to end in 2009.
According to the Vietnam News Agency, from June 24, the ivory ghost statue will be on display at the German Museum of Antiques.
