Discovered a strange 50,000-year-old crown in Siberia
Ancient crowns were identified by mammoth ivory in the Siberian Denisova cave.
This ancient antiquity is made from the extinct mammoth tusks of the age of 35,000 to 50,000 years - probably the oldest species found in the Nordic region so far.
"The crown or ribbon made of bones, antlers or ivory is one of the rarest personal decorations known in ancient Europe," Alexander Fedorchenko, a researcher from the Institute of Archeology and Ethnology Siberia branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences said.
The remnant of the 50,000-year-old mammoth ivory "crown" has been found.
More specifically, the ancient crown was discovered in Denisova cave in the Altai mountains of Siberia, where the Vikings were discovered for the first time.
The old Stone Age began about 40,000 years ago. In addition to mammoth tusks, items found in the cave from this period are made up of a variety of other raw materials such as soft stones, animal and bird bones, teeth and animal shells from fresh clams and eggs. Ostrich.
"On the one hand, we were surprised to find this unique crown. On the other hand - when you work at Denisova cave, you need to be ready for the most shocking scientific discoveries , " Fedorchenko said. share.
In order to create this ancient ivory crown , people living in caves would need to perform some treacherous steps to create. After obtaining mammoth ivory, they are capable of being cut into thin pieces and soaked in water to be able to bend into shape. Later, the ancient people treated them by shaping, shaving, cutting, grinding, drilling and polishing ivory.
Usually, the crown is still many pieces that scientists initially did not dare to be 100% sure about whether they came from a real crown or not.
The cave area contains ancient archaeological sites in Siberia.
But in this case, the researchers confirmed: "We can judge relatively confidently that the new discovery is a crown. First of all, the largest length of the piece - about 15 cm - is too long. Secondly, the crown has a curve shaped in accordance with the iconic temple symbol, the size of this product is also very suitable for a man with a head big deal ".
Archaeologists who studied very carefully when they observed under a microscope found "traces of use" such as scratches, microprints, scratches and polishes that would occur due to contact with objects. Organic material like leather.
Although claiming to be an ancient crown, archaeologists do not know if this crown is a sign of something "special " referring to the imperial rule or just one. Daily hair band to hold hair back. Or it can also be a mark of a family or tribe.
In addition to the ancient crown, the archaeological team also found other interesting antiques in the Denisova cave such as ivory rings, bone needles and beads.
"Along with the crown, these new artifacts will allow us to have a panoramic view of the life of Denisova caves," said researcher Fedorchenko.
