Goodbye Spirit

After more than 6 years Spirit rolled on the surface of the red planet, NASA officially said goodbye to this self-propelled device.

During its time, Spirit traveled more than 5 miles on Mars's surface, from the plains to the plateau and even climbed to the top of the high mountain with the Statue of Liberty. However 9 months ago, Spirit was plunged into a sand pit and stuck there. While running back to return to the starting point in April 2009, Spirit's wheels were dropped into the fine sand like powder on the red planet. The more the device tried to climb, the deeper it got into the sand.

NASA has detailed plans to rescue Spirit by taking advantage of the good weather ability in the spring to maximize solar energy, thereby trying to command it forward. But this plan failed.

Despite being stuck on the spot, Spirit could continue to provide some weather data, about the soil structure there.

According to the Daily Mail, Spirit landed on Mars with a 6-wheel design but a broken cake soon after, so with the crippled leg it crawled all over Mars. NASA engineers have also successfully dealt with computer errors on Spirit. This time it was hoped that it would not be possible to rescue because it had broken a wheel, a malfunction in memory and an antenna.
