GPS shoe for memory loss

Global positioning (GPS) technology can now help older people suffering from Alzheimer's and their caregivers through the introduction of the Smart Shoe. Aetrex says the shoe is suitable for both men and women, priced at £ 300 (£ 9.8 million), for a nominal location service fee of £ 30 per month.

The shoe is equipped with a GPS transceiver and a SIM card to send information about the location of shoes to a real-time personal surveillance website, helping to find the shoe owners if they stray. If users go out of the special monitoring area, caretakers can still find them through the Aetrex website, which uses the Google Maps service.

If the user removes the shoe, the caregiver immediately receives a warning message on a cell phone or computer, with instructions for where the shoe and the owner are located. After each charge, the battery used by the GPS receiver can operate for 2 days and it will automatically alert the caregiver when the battery is about to run out.
