The combination of graphene, a wonderful new material, with LED technology, the future of lighting technology, will bring about a tremendous advance in technology. Although this is not purely the original goal of the two research groups in Korea and Vietnam, they have finally achieved this perfect combination.

Through a new publication published in Nature, they demonstrated that using graphene materials allows LEDs to become brighter thanks to the good thermal conductivity of graphene materials.

A technological challenge is posed here on how to grow GaN crystalline layer in LED structure on graphene material with huge differences in crystal structure and lattice constant. .'The technology solution proposed by the research team is to use a pad of graphene oxide pattern (picture c) with microphone size on sapphire base ".

This is really a new advancement in LED light technology, which allows for energy consumption of only 20% compared to conventional incandescent bulbs, and according to manufacturers the shadow life will last for about 25 years. .

LEDs are manufactured and sold on the lighting market but are still facing challenges. Not yet popular with high power LED bulbs (about 1600 lumens) in part because the amount of heat they emit at high luminance can damage the device.

Last year, major manufacturers such as GE, Philips and Osram all released 100 watt LEDs. In addition, a super-efficient 100 watt LED light bulb called Nanolight is announced on Kickstarter website. But that's just the first step.

Recent technological advances in Asia may start the next big step.

"The introduction of oxidegraphene has significantly increased the LED's ability to glow compared to conventional LED bulbs, by spreading the heat generated in LED lights and increasing the heat resistance of lamps. This simple technology can allow the integration of graphene materials with large areas into other optoelectronic devices to effectively remove heat , " researchers said.
