Green lights help prevent suicide and committing crimes
Psychological experts claim that blue street lights are able to effectively block suicidal thoughts and offenses.
The psychological effect of green lights in public places is a controversial topic among experts over the years. But many train companies claim they are an effective tool in preventing people from finding their own death by jumping on the train or on the tracks.
Glasgow city (Scotland) built many blue light posts in 2000 to beautify the cityscape. After that, the number of cases in areas with green lights dropped sharply. In Nara, a Japanese city, police installed many blue street lights in 2005 and found that the number of cases in areas with lights decreased by about 9%. After that many other places in the country of cherry blossoms followed Nara.
Keihin Electric Train Company replaced 8 red beacons at stations at Gumyoji Station, Port City of Yokohama in February 2008. The company leader said that each year, several people will end their lives at Gumyoji Station by jumping into the ship. A company security officer said: 'We installed blue beacons to prevent suicide. Since Keihin installed a blue beacon, no suicide occurred at Gumyoji Station ".
The West Japan Railway was the first train company to bring a green light to all of its stations and railroads since December 2006, to prevent accidents caused by cars crashing through railroad tracks. Since then, there have not been any cars crashing into trains and neither people have committed suicide at intersections.
Train companies say people often commit suicide at night. A spokesman for West Japan Railway Company said: 'We believe that blue light has a certain effect in preventing suicidal behavior.' In addition, the green light has many other benefits.
