Hail in Lai Chau damaged more than 1,000 houses
The impact of hail and thunderstorms on the night of March 24 has caused severe damage to some mountainous provinces. Particularly in Lai Chau, the total damage caused by thunderstorms was 8.6 billion dong.
On the afternoon of March 25, the Central Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention issued a quick report on hail and thunderstorms in some northern mountainous provinces last night.
Accordingly, the influence of cold air combined with the wind convergence over 1500 m has caused hail, whirlwind in Tan Uyen district, Lai Chau province causing heavy damage to the area.
Statistics show that thunderstorms have caused more than 1,000 houses in this locality to be broken, punctured and unroofed. More than half of them were badly damaged 70-100%. Total loss of property due to rain is up to 8.6 billion.
At the same time, heavy rain also occurred in districts in Lao Cai province such as Bao Yen, Bac Ha, Lao Cai City, Sapa town. In just a few hours, the rainfall in these areas reached 30-44 mm. Heavy rains are accompanied by extreme events such as thunderstorms, thunderstorms, and some places where hail occurs.

As of March 25, a thunderstorm in Lao Cai caused a death from lightning. Thunderstorms along with hail also broke the cable, breaking a suspension bridge in Viet Tien commune. Currently, functional units are continuously statistics on damage to houses and agriculture.
This is not the first time hail appeared, causing heavy damage to localities this year. The most recent hailstorm on March 18 in the Northern Midland and Mountain provinces also caused economic losses of up to VND 9 billion.
Currently, the National Center for Hydrometeorological Forecasting continues to broadcast warning messages about thunderstorms in the Northern and Northern Central provinces tonight.
The effect of convergence in the upper western wind zone will cause heavy rainfall and thunderstorms in the delta area, the mountains with heavy rain. People need to continue to watch out for phenomena accompanied by rain like tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong winds.
From March 26, the rain decreased, the area returned to the hot state with the highest temperature at 30-32 degrees C.
Meteorological agency said that from now until the end of April, the North will receive another 3-5 waves of cold air with low intensity, mainly compressing low pressure grooves from the north, causing heavy rain and thunderstorms. In the meantime, mountainous and midland provinces continue to be at risk of hail and thunderstorms.
