Hanoi restricts the use of plastic bags

Hanoi Women's Union in collaboration with the Department of Natural Resources and Environment has launched the program "Restricting the use of plastic bags for the environment" yesterday.

Implementing the program, the Hanoi Women's Union disseminated information on nylon harms to the environment and human health, socio-economic development, mobilized women to use friendly bags. plastic bag replacement environment, change environmental friendly waste paper bag, fold paper bags to replace plastic bags, sort waste at source.

Previously, Hanoi successfully piloted the program 'Restricting the use of plastic bags for the environment' on the system of Hapro Mart supermarkets. Thereby, the program helps people to be aware of the harms of plastic bags to the environment, to raise awareness and habits to limit the use of plastic bags, aiming to not use plastic bags in daily life.

According to environmental experts, the life of plastic bags is thousands of years long. Disposing of a plastic bag takes less than a second, but letting it break down naturally takes 500 to 1,000 years. Plastic bags that contain food will contaminate because they contain metals such as lead, harmful to the brain and cause lung cancer, birth defects for babies.
