Having a rare illness, the man has eyes like Sauron

These special eyes belong to a 44-year-old man living in Texas (USA). During a routine vision test, the doctor saw his fiery red iris.

According to Ars Technica, this family has a history of glaucoma, a group of dangerous diseases that can damage the optic nerve.

At first, this person was identified as having high eye pressure, the leading cause of glaucoma. On closer inspection, the doctor saw a glowing red circle around the iris - the eye color determinant, which controls the amount of light entering the retina. His iris was peeling and could no longer control the light.

Doctors diagnose this person with a genetic syndrome called pigment dispersion. According to the National Institutes of Health, the syndrome occurs when pigment particles that stick to the back of the iris peel off into a clear liquid. If left standing for long periods of time, fluid builds up, leading to increased eye pressure that damages the optic nerve.

Pigmented dispersed syndrome is quite rare, usually occurs in the age group of 20-40 years, the ratio of men and women are equal and easy to see in myopia.

In this person's case, the doctor performed a laser scan to reduce eye pressure, giving eye drops to continue treatment.
