Herbal remedies for sore throat

Psyllium, licorice, thyme or perilla soil can soothe coughs and sore throats when it's cold.

At the time of changing seasons, many people often have bronchial problems such as sore throat, dry cough, bronchitis . Pharmacist Christine Cieur-Tranquart and Dr. Pierre Théallet, author of Family Care Guideline by Natural herbs , sharing herbal remedies can cure a sore throat.

Relieve common sore throat

For common sore throats, the two best herbal remedies are psyllium and licorice . Psyllium has anti-cough properties, which contain histamine (anti-allergy), anti-infection properties by releasing one of its molecules, aucuboside. Meanwhile, the main active ingredient of licorice is glyccyrrhizin, which has anti-inflammatory properties.

This medicine can be used in liquid and tablet form. In liquid form, i.e. fresh plant extract, consisting of 2.5 ml of psyllium combined with 2.5 ml of licorice diluted with water, taken three times daily for 7 consecutive days. In the form of capsules, the product is prepared by fresh plant pharmaceutical companies, taking directly one tablet of psyllium extract and one licorice extract tablet, three times a day for 7 days.

Note, it is recommended that people with hypertension do not take licorice because it may increase blood pressure.

Sore throat with a dry cough

Medicine includes psyllium, licorice and herbal from pine. Pine trees contain ingredients that act as a respiratory disinfectant, helping to soothe coughs and improving respiratory ability. This remedy also works to treat chronic bronchitis.

In liquid form, use 2 ml of pine, 2 ml of bananas, 2 ml of licorice diluted in water, drink three times a day for 7 days. Tablets extracted from these 3 herbs, take one pill three times a day for 7 days.

Colds, laryngitis

Two very good herbs for curing a cold are thyme and hollyhock. In thyme, there is an active ingredient that suppresses coughs, including expectorant and dry coughs, and has antiseptic, antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties. The hollyhock helps soothe irritation in the throat.

Usage: Soak thyme in cold water for about 10 minutes, then boil it with hollyhock roots, let it cool for 10 minutes then drink it like tea. Take 30-50 ml of the day, 3-4 times daily for more than a week.

Note: Avoid thyme after 5pm as this is a tonic herb that easily causes insomnia.

Soothe coughs due to gastroesophageal reflux

A chronic cough (especially at night, when lying down) is one of the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, as acid reflux irritates the bronchi and throat. You can use herbal remedies from the soil plant, perilla and camomile.

Lemon balm has anti-inflammatory properties, soothing irritation. Chamomile is considered an antispasmodic, limiting coughing spells. Both of these herbs have an antacid effect reducing reflux.
