How does one day on the astronauts' International Space Station take place?

For non-members on the International Space Station (ISS), the concept of one day is quite abstract because every 24 hours, they will experience 15 dawn dawn when ISS flies around the earth.

One day on the International Space Station with astronauts

The "morning" of crew members on the ISS starts with a bell. They leave the sleeping bag and start a new day.

The astronauts wear clothes as fast as possible. This work seems simple but is not easy to implement in a zero gravity environment. Because the space station does not have a washing machine, they must wear "savings" as possible. Usually, 3 days they change clothes once . Dirty clothes will be put in plastic bags and gathered in a corner, waiting for the day to go to earth to wash.

In a zero gravity environment, water will float and stick to your skin, making it difficult to rub your body. To solve the problem, astronauts must bathe with a wet towel. They then used a vacuum to remove water from the skin instead of using a towel or dryer.

For men working on the station, shaving is a complicated and time-consuming task because water and ice cream are always clinging to the face. If not careful, the stubble will float everywhere, stuck in machinery and cause damage.

After cleaning, the first meal of the day begins. Compared to the time when Apollo performed its mission to bring people to the moon, food in the space was more diverse. However, according to Leroy Chiao, an engineer who once worked on ISS, most of the menu on the space station is liquid food. Peanut butter is the main dish.

With the latest technology, astronauts can enjoy meals on the table. However, when living long in a zero gravity environment, their taste buds deteriorate. So their favorite food is often spicy foods.

After the meal, the crew will start working. Chiao shared that their main job is to monitor the experiment or perform equipment maintenance of the station.

" To live in space, people need a lot of complex machines to support. Every day, each of us uses about 0.9 kg of oxygen (O2) liquefaction and 2.7 kg of water. With little resupply, all necessities are recycled to the maximum extent, "the former astronaut told CNN.

According to Chiao, urine and moisture are the most reused ingredients. Machines will handle these by purification or electrolysis. Unnecessary liquids or gases will be released into the air. Human feces cannot be recycled. The astronauts gathered them in one place, waiting for them to return to Earth to process.

A day on the ISS is quite busy and exhausting, especially when the crew has to transport heavy equipment. Gravity does not mean that objects lose weight. In order to bring them to the required location, engineers must try to overcome the inertia of the object.

Like Russia's former Peace Space Station, ISS has a treadmill and exercise bike. In a zero gravity environment, the muscles do not need to support the skeleton, so they will disappear. Therefore, a few hours of daily exercise will help astronauts avoid some occupational diseases after returning to Earth.

Before going to bed, everyone on the station will have a free time. They can email home, watch DVDs or television shows. However, one of the most popular pastimes is watching the earth from space . Astronauts identified this game as never boring.

Most astronauts sleep in a bag fastened to the wall and near the exhaust fan. The air can make them sleep badly but without it, when they wake up, they will be in a state of lack of O2 by the amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) they breathe all night.

Fans, air filters and other devices on the ISS make the space quiet. Some of them have earplugs when they go to sleep. However, people must also adapt gradually to this special life.
