How to clean the eyes, nose, ears and umbilical cord for newborns

The nose is an important part of the baby's body, but do not put any tools inside, including cotton swabs for cleaning.

From birth, parts of the child are still immature. Therefore, the cleaning should be gentle, careful to not cause scratches and injuries, but must be clean. However, some parents listen to the earings, using improper disinfectant solutions that affect them.

Eye hygiene for babies

  1. Wash your hands before cleaning your baby's eyes.
  2. Use a cotton ball dipped in boiling water to cool.
  3. Wipe from inside to outside corner horizontally (do not wipe the inside of the eye causing visual effects).
  4. To clean it again, you must use a new piece of cotton dipped in cool boiled water.
  5. Keep repeating such movements until your baby's eyes are cleaned.

After cleaning one eye, continue to do so with the other eye. Parents can clean their eyes in the above way 1-2 times / day or when needed.

While performing eye hygiene gently, do not rush, be careful, to avoid rubbing the skin of the eye area, do not wipe the inside of the eye.

Nasal hygiene for babies

Infants have narrow nostrils, often sneezing to expel mucus from the nasal cavity. Therefore, it is best not to put anything inside the baby's nostrils, including cotton swabs, which can damage the lining of the nasal cavity, which is the mucous membrane that contains many blood vessels.

You can clean your baby's nose when bathing by soaking a cotton ball in clean warm water and gently wipe around the nostrils to cleanse the mucus.

Hygiene for babies' ears

Parents can use a cotton swab to cool off the back of the ear and around the outer area of ​​each ear. You have to do it gently, being careful not to let the cotton, the water inside the ear can hurt.

Many parents often take their own earwax for fear of affecting hearing. However, this is a habit to quit immediately. If there is earwax in the outer ear, you can clean it with cotton. When earwax is present in the baby's inner ear, parents need to take the child to the specialist for review and the safest way to remove it.

How to clean the umbilical cord for children

Parents can use cotton pads soaked in cool boiled water to gently wipe on the umbilical cord. You can wipe many times until the umbilical cord is completely cleaned. However, parents note that a new cotton pad should be used for each cleaning. After wiping the umbilical cord with cotton, it must be dry, airy, not wet. Parents do not use any oil, powder, paste, ointment to apply to the umbilical cord.
